ASTM B407 UNS N08810 Tube Resistance in Sulfide and Chloride Environments


ASTM B407 UNS N08810 (commonly known as Incoloy 800) is a nickel-iron-chromium high-temperature alloy seamless tube designed for extremely high temperatures and corrosive environments. Its chemical composition is based on nickel (30-35%), chromium (19-23%) and iron (about 39.5%), with trace elements such as aluminum and titanium added to enhance oxidation and carburization resistance. The alloy can still maintain excellent oxidation resistance, carburization resistance and mechanical strength at high temperatures up to 1100°C, and has good resistance to sulfide and chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC).


The ASTM B407 standard specifies its manufacturing process: forming by hot extrusion or cold rolling (cold rolling tube process), followed by solution annealing (927–1010°C) and rapid cooling to ensure uniform microstructure and stable mechanical properties. At room temperature, its tensile strength is not less than 448 MPa, and its elongation exceeds 30%. It can still effectively resist creep and stress fracture in high-temperature environments above 700°C.


N08810 pipes are widely used in key equipment such as petrochemical cracking furnaces, ethylene cracking tubes, nuclear power heat exchangers, and thermal power boilers, especially in high-temperature oxidation, carburizing or sulfidation environments. Compared with traditional stainless steel (such as 304/316), it performs better in high-temperature strength, thermal fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance; compared with high-nickel alloys (such as Inconel 600), it has a lower cost and is an ideal choice for balancing performance and economy. In environments containing chloride ions, sulfides or acidic media, N08810 pipes can serve stably for a long time, becoming a reliable solution for high-temperature and high-pressure systems in the energy, chemical and aerospace fields.


Description

INCOLOY alloy 800 is an alloy of nickel, iron and chromium. The alloy is capable of remaining stable and maintaining its austenitic structure even after long time exposures to high temperatures. Other characteristics of the alloy are good strength, and high resistance to oxidizing, reducing and aqueous environments. The standard forms in which this alloy is available are round, flats, forging stock, tube, plate, sheet, wire and strip.
